"What time is it?" Toto snuffled on her lead, and said as quietly as she could.
"It's only 4:30pm, we have plenty of time." Reginald looked at his watch a second time.
"Come on, you wanted a walk in the park." Reginald pulled her lead as he walked between the trees.
The beeches and pines intermingled like they never would be in the wild. Reginald walked with an old man's gait, shuffling and slow.
Toto sniffed and investigated each and every tree as they went. To her it was a wonderful rainbow of textures and history This smell old when the squirrel came down to get the nuts - and never went back up. This smell new, sweet and sickly.
"Something's wrong Reg!" she pulled up and sat down on her hind legs.
Reginald stopped, turned and looked behind him. "What's wrong? Apart from the fact that a dog has just spoken out loud."
"I smell blood. New Blood."
Reginald looked at his watch again. "It's fine. It's only 4:30pm, we have plenty of time."
"That's what you said 10 minutes ago." Toto growled.
"Oh S'Truth!" Reginald bent down and picked Toto up. Toto wriggled in the way that all small dogs do when being picked up against their wills.
Reginald tapped her on the snout. "Stop that!"
They raced home, hoping against hope that they made it before moon rise.
